We had a blood letting today. I immediately volunteered. I'd given blood before, and expected today to be routine. Unfortunately, things went wrong right from the beginning - at first the nurse couldn't find my vein, then when he did get the needle in, the vein collapsed. Three nurses started moving the needle this way and that, but to no avail - the blood clotted, rendering the half-full bag already extracted unusable. I'm so disappointed since I wanted someone to be able to benefit from my contribution.
This is my inner elbow. I'm sure this will be a whopper of a bruise tomorrow. It will be four months before I am allowed donate again, but I plan to wait until the end of the year or early next year to try again. Better luck next time, I hope.

Sis for me, that's a normal occurrence na whenever I need my blood extracted. Every single time, hindi nila makita vein ko kasi mataba ako..tapos they would do a "blind shot" na lang meaning itutusok na lang then once nasa loob na yung needle, dun maghahanap ng vein. Musta naman diba? Pero nasanay na ko.
ReplyDeleteGusto ko din mag-donate, but my weight never reached the minimum requirement. Sabi nung nurse sakin dati, mas kailangan ko daw yung dugong gusto kong i-donate. :P
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time my vein collapsed, so it was a new experience for me.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is that this morning in the office, people thought that I had fainted! It turns out that the janitor, who had dropped by at the bloodletting, overheard people saying "na collapse" and saw the nurses fussing over me as I lay in the cot. His imagination took over, hence the chismis was born! :p
Buti ka pa sis gwacie, nakakapagdonate ng blood. I've always wanted to do this kahit na takot ako sa cbc (pero kung injection gamit ok lang). Just like sis Faith, never pa akong pumasa sa 1st requirement -- weight. Ako din daw yata ang dapat bigyan ng dugo. hehe.
